Origin of 'Woman'

NOT COMPLETED - IN PROGRESS.

Leaves and rose petals on canvas.

This piece is paired with 'Man' and represents an Eve-like figure. She lies nude on her side, seen from above. Her skin and hair are made of roes petals; the leaves she is lying on are made from the very leaves she lies on. The image is the medium.

She is built from the symbols that have historically defined women in art - roses for beauty, fragility, desire and transformation. But here, the metaphor becomes material. She is not like a rose - she is the rose. The leaves are not background - they are her ground, her context, her origin.
